Central Coast player of the year Aiden O'Neill has agreed a move to Brisbane Roar for next season.

The 20-year-old, who was born and raised in Brisbane, is to join Robbie Fowler's new-look Roar squad on a one-season loan.

O'Neill scored four goals in 23 appearances for the Mariners last season after signing on loan from Burnley.

Coach Alen Stajcic had hoped to retain the youngster for 2019-20 as the Gosford club bid to improve their fortunes after two consecutive wooden spoon seasons.

But reports suggest the Australia U-23 international midfielder, whose current deal with Burnley expires at the end of this month, will re-sign with the Clarets and then be loaned back out to Brisbane.

It's understood several other A-League clubs inquired about O'Neill's services but were put off by the loan fee Burnley were asking, which the Roar have agreed to meet.

O'Neill played youth football for Brisbane Athletic before his family moved to England when he was 14.

He joined the Burnley academy and graduated to make three Premier League appearances in the 2016-17 campaign, before having loan spells with Oldham Athletic and Fleetwood Town.

Brisbane currently have only 12 players on their books after Fowler, who signed a two-year contract in April, opted for a major clear-out before his first campaign in charge.

Former Melbourne Victory midfielder Rahmat Akbari is the Roar's only confirmed signing so far, while 16 players have left since the end of last season when the club failed to make the Finals Series.

Matt McKay has retired, while the rest - including Danish pair Thomas Kristensen and Tobias Mikkelsen - have been given free transfers.

Other players reported to be joining Brisbane include former Scotland youth international Bradden Inman, who was released last month by Rochdale, and ex-Newcastle Jets striker Roy O'Donovan.

Brisbane Roar are 16/1 to win the 2020 Grand Final.

Meanwhile, Australia are 13/10 to win their next game at the Women's World Cup against Norway, who are 9/5 with the draw 13/5.
