NWFL: Governor Obaseki  host victorious Edo Queens aftermath Super Six triumph

The Executive Governor of Edo State His Excellency Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki has hosted the newly crowned champions of the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL for 2023/24 season in Benin City as gathered by Nigeriasoccernet.com

This is inline with the Governor's promises to return Edo State to her premier position in Nigeria sports.

The red-carpet  reception which is scheduled to take place  in Government House is tailored to words honouring the State Contingent for their excellent outing in the just concluded Super six tournament were Edo Queens emerged champions of NWFL premiership last Sunday in Yenagoa Bayelsa State.

The victorious Ancient City based distinguished themselves by winning the most prestigious women football Laurel in the land  for the first time since inception of the NWFL premiership.

The epic decider game between Edo Queens and Rivers Angels which took place on Sunday under a tense atmosphere at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa saw a resilient Edo Queens displaying content, character pedigree and professionalism and at the end of the clash their hard work paid off and were crowned champions of the NWFL for 2023/24  season in a highly successful Super six championship.

The First Lady Her Excellency  Dr. Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, Edo Sports Commission Chairman Yussuf Alli, (Olympian) and other top government functionaries will be  there to receive the NWFL  champions.

From there the team and the teeming supporters will do a road show led by Her Excellency Dr.Mrs. Betsy Obaseki after which  they will proceed to  Government House  for the reception proper by the Governor

Meanwhile, the victorious Queens were unlucky yesterday evening at the Awka Township Stadium where they loss 4-1 to the former league champions Rivers Angels FC in the round of 16 of the President Federation Cup.

The defeat could be attributed to fatigue from the Super six tournament.

With that defeat, Edo Queens are now out of the Federation Cup. They have shifted their attention to the African Women's Champions League play-off coming later this year.
