NPFL: Kada City off to bright start, Akwa United hold Kano Pillars

The Nigeria National League champions Kada City began their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) campaign on a happy note, beating fellow newly promoted side, Gombe United 2-1 in Kaduna, yesterday.

City broke the deadlock at the 19th minute of the first half through Mohammed Umar, but Enesi equalized for the visitors two minutes after, before Sadiq Suleiman struck in the 23rd minute to restore the lead. After the break, the two sides who were meeting for the second time in the space of twelve days, thrilled the spectators with scintillating performance and with no goal scored in the second half, the host pocketed all three maximum points of the encounter.

In Sagamu, another two promoted sides, Remo Stars and Bendel Insurance played a 1-1 draw in their NPFL match. The visitors broke the deadlock in a keen encounter in 53 minutes through Charles Omokaro with a solo effort, but the hosts, Remo Stars, with the overwhelming support of their fans drew level in the 76th minute when Victor Mbaoma turned the ball into net for Boboye’s men.

In other matachday3 fixtures of the NPFL decided, yesterday, former champions, Plateau United dispatched El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 2-0 at the Jos Township Stadium, while Kano Pillars and Akwa United played out a 1-1 draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

In Ilorin, Kwara United defeated Enyimba of Aba 3-2. Mustapha Ibrahim put the visitors in front 16 minutes into the match, but Segun Alebiosu equalized for the hosts before the half hour mark.

Joseph Osadiaye returned Enyimba’s lead on the 55 minutes from a penalty, while Segun Alebiosu scored again on 60th minute to draw the host level before Uche Onwuansanya struck the killer at 76th minute to give Kwara United a well deserved victory.
