Rivers United technical adviser, Finidi George, praised his players after their 2-1 win over Kwara United at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Timothy Zacharia and David Benjamin scored for Rivers United, while Akani Akeem grabbed Kwara United's only goal.
Finidi admitted the encounter was tough. "It's been a long time since we scored two goals; doing it in the game against Kwara United is good for the team," he said.
"I told them it was going to be a difficult game because last season Rivers United didn't win. Unfortunately, we conceded and had to fight back, which propelled us to make two quick changes to get the win. We have to commend the players for the win."
It's the River's second win in three after the 1-0 set back against Bayelsa United on Matchday 14.
