NNL: Gateway United come from behind to beat Sporting Lagos

Gateway United gave their bid to remain in the Nigeria National League a huge boost with a win over Sporting Lagos on Saturday, NigeriaSoccernet.com reports.

The Ogun State club rallied back after going a goal down to edge the tie against the Tech Boys of Lagos 2-1 at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode.

The hosts were on the ascendency, pushing for the opener, with Emmanuel Wilson's curling effort parried by Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Clinton Lawani after 22 minutes.

Aleloju Seyi saw his goal-bound effort was intercepted by Sporting’s Aliu Salaudeen a few minutes later.

However, it was the visitors who stunned the home fans, going in front after 33 minutes into the encounter as the first half remained in Sporting's favour.

Six minutes into the second half, Babatunde Taofeek levelled matters for the hosts from the spot before AbdulHammeed Mubaraq fired Gateway United into a 2-1 lead with a stunning strike which turned the winner at full time.

The win puts Gateway United 9th on the 11-team log with 19 points after 17 matches played, while Sporting Lagos are third with 28 points after 18 matches played.
