The comeback of former Nigeria World Cup star Chinedu Obasi after a long-drawn battle with various injuries has suffered a massive setback after he left Norwegian club Lillestrom without any notice.

The 30-year-old Obasi, who was released by German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 last year, has been training with Lillestrom for a month and half, but has yet to be offered a contract despite reports he was close to joining up with the Norwegian club.

It appears the forward, who featured at the 2010 World Cup, was frustrated he had yet to be offered a contract and so did not say his goodbyes when he stormed out of Lillestrom this past week.

“He left without any notice, in short he disappeared,” a source informed AfricanFootball.com

“He had yet to be given a contract by the club after he trained with them for more than a month.”

Last October, Obasi, who incidentally started his career in Europe with another Norwegian club Lyn Oslo in 2005, tried out with Premier League club Sunderland, but was not given a contract.

A once promising career has been plagued by various long-term injuries including shin and hamstring complaints.
