Real Madrid were prepared to bring Nicolas Paz back to the club, but the Argentina international decided to remain at Como to ensure regular first-team football.

The Spanish side could have activated a €9m buy-back option for Paz last summer. However, after the player made it clear he did not want to return at that stage, Real Madrid sold Como full ownership of his registration for €60m.

Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano said Paz still has strong feelings for Real Madrid and has not ruled out returning in the future. The 21-year-old instead believes he needs consistent playing time to continue developing at this point in his career.

Paz has since attracted further attention with an outstanding Champions League performance against Manchester United, scoring twice and providing an assist in Como’s 4-1 victory.

Real Madrid retain the first option to buy back the emerging Argentina star, with that clause set at €80m.
