The Nigerian Football Federation has commiserated with Henry Onyekuru after the Super Eagles forward lost his mother.

The Galatasaray forward, on loan from Monaco, played a crucial role as Nigeria defeated the Benin Republic and Lesotho at the end of March.

Head coach Gernot Rohr named Onyekuru in the starting eleven that narrowly defeated the Squirrels in Porto Novo.

And the former Everton signing provided the assist for Paul Onuachu to slam home the Super Eagles’ final goal in the 3-0 defeat of the Crocodiles at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

But death has layered the country’s joy with a spread of darkness after Onyekuru took to social media to announce his mother’s passing away.

The NFF, through its official Twitter account, later offered prayers and condolences to the exciting winger and his family.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of @NGSuperEagles forward, @henryconyekuru, following the sad passing of his dear mother. May her soul Rest In Peace,” read the statement.

It would be recalled that earlier in the year, another Super Eagles star John Ogu, also lost his mother.

Mrs. Obiageli Ogu (Nee Eboh), who died at 58 years old, will be buried in Anambra State on April 7-8, 2021.
