Murray earns Hughton plaudits

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Chris Hughton has hailed the efforts of Glenn Murray after the veteran striker signed a one-year contract extension with the Seagulls.

The 35-year-old frontman, who is in his second spell with Albion, recently brought up a century of goals for the South Coast club, doing so in 231 appearances in all competitions.

He has proved a vital member of the team and his goals have been crucial to us.

And Hughton is confident that Murray is far from finished, having signed on until the end of next season.

"He has proved a vital member of the team and his goals have been crucial to us," Hughton told the club's official website.

"Glenn has scored consistently for us, first in helping us win promotion and now in the Premier League as we seek to establish ourselves at the top level.

"He's proved himself at the very top late on in his career and his professionalism and approach on and off the pitch is a big factor in why he's still doing it now.

"After recently reaching the 100-goal mark for the club, I know Glenn will be hungry to add more goals to that tally."

Meanwhile, Murray himself added: "I don't think at any stage of my career I'd have believed I would be getting another contract in the Premier League at this age, but you just never know what can happen in football.

"That's why you’ve got to remain professional, try your best and keep striving."

Brighton are currently priced at 10/1 to be relegated this season, while they are 1/16 to beat the drop and 4/1 to finish in the top half of the Premier League table.
