Mubarak Wakaso claims playing at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations cost him a regular spot at Scottish giants Celtic last season.

The Ghana international midfielder joined the Bhoys on a season-long loan deal from Russian side Rubin Kazan for more game time but that wasn’t to be.

The midfielder managed only five league matches and some scanty appearances in the Europa League.

"The problem in Scotland last year was that when I went to play the African Nations Cup, Celtic bought a player for my position. The coach told me again that competition had grown in my position and I had to fight for it.That was harder for me to gain playing time,” Wakaso explained.

Wakaso has now joined promoted Spanish La Liga side Las Palmas hoping to play week-in-week out.
