Coach Paa Kwesi Fabians side were the first to break out of the blocks and were full value for their lead after influential midfielder Fuseini Elliasu rounded off Dabou before passing the ball into an empty net.

The goal served as a wakeup call for the miners who calved out their first chance of the game immediately after that but were denied by Yaw Ohene's tackle.

They will however not be denied the second time after Eric Opoku took advantage of a defensive blunder to pull AshGold back into the game.

Both sides took a step back with caution the watch word for the entire duration of the remaining first half.

The second half was marred with heavy rains but Ivorian striker Didier Kore came close to giving AshGold the lead for the first time in the game but his finish left more to be desired.
