Rodney Wallace, a long-time MLS veteran, has signed a one-day deal with the Portland Timbers, the team announced on Friday.

Prior to Sunday's rivalry match against the Seattle Sounders at Providence Park, the 33-year-old midfielder will be honored on the pitch.

In his last season in Major League Soccer, the former Costa Rican international scored 24 goals and added 29 assists in 204 regular-season games with four different clubs (Portland, D.C. United, New York City FC, Sporting Kansas City). He entered the league in 2009 as the No. 6 overall selection in the SuperDraft presented by adidas, following a college career at Maryland.

“Thinking back on my career, I realized that retiring as a Timber was the best way for me to respect what the organization has done for me and what I was able to do for the club, the city, and the fans,” Wallace said in Friday's release. “Winning an MLS Cup is my biggest accomplishment to date, and I’m proud to have been a part of that.”
