Philadelphia Union announced Wednesday that central midfielder Jamiro Monteiro has returned to training and is eligible for selection against New York City FC.

Monteiro had been absent from the team as both the club and the player worked on a prospective move, which never came to fruition. Most European transfer windows are open till the end of the month.

"The transfer market is fluid, and while interest in Jamiro remains high, no bids were made in the transfer window," stated sports director Ernst Tanner in a statement. "While possibilities are still being examined, it was determined that it would be beneficial for all parties to have him reintegrate with the squad for training and matches at this time."

Monteiro, 27, joined Philadelphia on loan from Ligue 1 side Metz for the 2019 season, then was bought permanently for a $2 million price ahead of the 2020 season.
