Besiktas have been closely linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel for well over a year.

However, Turkish football agent Mesrun Izzet recently confirmed interest and hinted at talks. Izzet has a mandate to operate on behalf of Mikel in Turkey according to Haberturk.

Izzet is reported as telling the newspaper: “Mikel did enquire about Besiktas and there were talks it all depends on what Besiktas board decide to do.”

The agent also revealed that Mikel wants assurances of first-team football if he does decide to leave the Blues.

“Money is of course important but Mikel wants first-team football if he is to move,” he added.

Mikel would almost be certain to lock down a first-team place at Besiktas and the Black Eagles would also be able to offer Champions League football.

The Istanbul giants won the Super Lig title last season and are already among the bookmakers favourites to retain the championship.

Turkish Super Lig broadcaster LigTv recently reported that the Black Eagles are preparing a replacement for Atiba Hutchinson if the Canada international leaves over the summer.

The Nigerian intentional is reported to be on the Besiktas shortlist as the club continue efforts to strengthen their central midfield.

Mikel reportedly turned down a £110k-a-week offer from Galatasaray back in January following the appointment of Guus Hiddink.

The 29-year-old made 33 appearances in all competitions last season and has a year remaining on his current contract.
