Mendy ruptures anterior cruciate ligament

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The 23-year-old left-back suffered the injury in the first half of the 5-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Mendy became the world's most expensive defender in the summer after joining City from Monaco for £52m.

The France international will have surgery with a specialist in Barcelona on Friday, City said in a statement.
