Match Report: Hearts of Oak 2-0 B/A United - Fiamenyo's brace sends Apostles packing
Gilbert Fiamenyo continued his heroics for Hearts of Oak as he scored a brace to power the Phobians to a comfortable 2-0 win over struggling Brong Ahafo United in the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The 22-year-old fired Hearts upfront with a bracing strike in the 37th minute before cementing the win five minutes from time.
Fiamenyo's magics had powered Herbert Addo's men to deserving 2-1 win over Senegalese side Olympique de Ngor in the CAF Champions League.
For Hearts coach Herbert Addo, he needed the maximum points from the game to assure fans of the level of development of his squad. He welcome back Fiamenyo back into his starting line-up who partnered Togolese forward Foovi Aguidi.
Hearts started the tie well but United appeared unbreakable as they defended with great resolve. However, they were unable to contain the Phobians beyond the half-hour mark as Fiamenyo outleaped a defender to head the ball home for the opener.
United came in strongly but Hearts varied their play after the second half and pressed for the second goal but Fiamenyo and Aguidi all missed chances. At a point Fiamenyo was considered of being selfish upfront but he proved his relevance for the Phobians when he used the last five minutes of the game to head the ball past the United keeper for the his 8th goal of the season.
While Hearts of Oak increase their tally to 15 points and move up the ladder.
