African Footballer of the Year Yaya Toure wants to be credited with Manchester City’s winning goal in the 2-1 Barclays Premier League victory on Saturday.
Toure’s stoppage time effort at the Etihad Stadium has since been credited to the Nigerian starlet who deflected the ball past the luckless Swansea goalkeeper, Lukasz Fabianski but the big Ivorian is having none of it.
The midfielder claims the goal should be his as it was destined for the back of the net anyway.
“When you see the action, the ball was going into the net.
“When you shoot on target I think it is your goal because the intention was to score so can we do?
“We’ll see what the verdict is but as far as I’m concerned, it’s mine,” he told the club’s official website, www.mcfc.co.uk.
City fans also agree with Toure as 60 per cent of them who took part in an online poll conducted by the club’s website voted that the goal be credited to him.
Forty per cent of the 10,120 fans who voted however disagreed, insisting that the goal be credited to Iheanacho.
