As reported by L'Equipe, AS Monaco first-team manager Niko Kovac, responding to criticisms addressed to German goalkeeper Alexander Nübel: "I am satisfied with Alex, he's a smart guy. He will show his qualities because he is a very good goalkeeper".

Throughout his first eight appearances for French club, Nübel (turning 25 on September 30) managed to keep a clean sheet only once, and could not prevent the Monegasque start into the Ligue 1 season with only four points from five games. The 24-year-old, playing on a loan spell for Bayern Munich until June 2023, did not allow himself to make any major blunders, but was also rarely able to stand out.

Here are Kovac's words: “He conceded several goals that he couldn't do anything about. Of the seven we conceded in Ligue 1, four or five goals were one-on-one. It's hard to stand out in situations like this. At the time he didn't have many opportunities to show his qualities because we didn't allow many opportunities. He just needs a sense of achievement and, above all, more support from the players in front of him, not just from the defenders, but from the entire team".
