Possibly leaving Cagliari after just one season in, in spite of an ongoing 2-year deal left with Italian club, 35-year old Uruguayan international centre-back Diego Godín, according to latest Spanish news, has been targeted by Villarreal.

La Celeste captain used to play for El Submarino Amarillo from 2007/08 to 2009/10, a span throughout which he capped 116 times overall, scoring four goals therein. Joining Atletico Madrid right afterwards, Godín carried on a very successful nearly decade-long tenure playing for Colchoneros, establishing himself as one of the best backliners worldwide, and achieving a total of eight titles (plus two running-up Champions League positions).

Equipped with a dual Spanish citizenship, former Inter Milan player is currently earning a 3 million euros annual salary, a wage Europa League defending champions are not providing him as a given.
