According to ARA, Jorge Messi, Lionel Messi's father and agent, wanted Joan Laporta to sell one of the club's young players for a hefty sum in order to sign Leo.

It further claims that the club followed up his suggestion and contemplated selling Ansu Fati, but ultimately decided against it.

Messi wanted to continue at the club, but due to financial constraints, he was unable to do so. Fati's sale would have allowed Barça to not only re-sign him, but also to bring in a substantial transfer fee, freeing up room for a new signing next summer.

However, the disadvantages of dumping someone as skilled as Fati are likely to exceed the financial benefits.
