The 22-year-old joined the club until the end of the 2015/16 season from Western Sydney Wanderers and was attracted to the Phoenix's playing style.

"I like the playing style and it's a great bunch of boys with a tight community," said Appiah, who describes himself as an attacking player who loves to showboat.

"What Ernie Merrick's doing here is a fantastic job and it's something I want to be part of."

Merrick said he wouldn't be including Appiah in this weekend's squad.

"He will probably have a run with the reserves for half-a-game on Saturday," said Merrick.

"We're very happy with him, as you see he has tremendous pace, he cuts inside, cuts outside, good dribble and good one-on-one.

"I think at this time of the year, to have someone fresh is just such a good thing."
