Asante Kotoko could progress to the next round of the 2015 CAF Champions without kicking a ball with their opponents East End Lions pondering over a withdrawal.

The Ghanaian champions have been drawn to face the Sierra Leonean club in the first knockout round of the competition in February.

There is however an uncertainty over whether the game will be played with Sierra Leone one of the worst hit countries with the deadly Ebola virus.

Both the General Secretary and the head of competitions of the Sierra Leonean FA – Abdul Rahman Davies and Sorie Ibrahim Sesay respectively – have hinted at the possible withdrawal of East End Lions which means Kotoko can progress to the next stage even without kicking a ball.

“I don’t think Lions will be competing in the clubs continental big stage,” Rahman revealed while Sesay also said: “They [Lions] have been engaged to play Asante Kotoko of Ghana, but I don’t see their willingness to partake though not official yet.”

If confirmed, Asante Kotoko will progress to the next stage of the competition where they will face either El Eulma of Algeria or Ethiopia’s Saint Georges.
