Kevin-Prince Boateng's move to Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon is hanging on the brink of collapse after the Ghanaian midfielder failed his medicals, a top newspaper in the country has reported.

Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha reported on Wednesday that the 28-year-old midfielder Boateng did not pass the medical check in Lisbon.

There is no word or reaction from Sporting Lisbon following the report by the newspaper.

An official statement on the part of Lisbon there was not initially.

Boateng arrived in Portugal on Tuesday where he was set to sign a two-year deal with Sporting Lisbon but the move has delayed which seems to have sparked the report.

The 28-year-old midfielder, who is also a German citizen and has played for Schalke 04 since 2013, did not make any comment as he was shown on television at Lisbon airport.

The Royal Blues kicked Boateng out of the squad last May after a shock defeat at Cologne.

Schalke finished sixth in the Bundesliga and missed out on a Champions League berth for the first time since the 2010/11 season.
