Tamale-based Kalponi Anglican primary school clinched the title in the Northern zone qualifier of the maiden edition of the Milo MILO® Under-13 Champions League over the weekend.
A highly-impressive Kalponi team dispatched Upper West-based Yayumbe D/A Primary School to win win championship.
The two-day event which was held at the Tamale Senior High School’s park saw eight schools drawn from the Northern, Upper East and the Upper West regions of Ghana battle for supremacy for the ultimate prize of qualifying to represent their respective regions at the National Finals to be held between the 9th and the 11th of July 2015 at the Paa Joe Park, (KNUST) in Kumasi.
The twinkle-toe Kalpohin side thrashed E.P Primary 4-0 in the quarters before accounting for Sakasaka Primary 2-0 in the semi finals.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Miss Marilyn Ofori, the Brands Manger- MILO® advised the pupils not to put aside their books all in the name of preparing for the national finals in Kumasi. “Although there is the need for you guys to prepare adequately for the national finals, you cannot do that at the expense of your books” she said.
She also thanked all the participating schools for travelling far and near to compete in the maiden edition of the MILO® Champions League qualifier and praised the effort of the Ghana Education Service for helping organize the competition.
She finally urged the schools who could not make it to the national finals to drink a lot of MILO® so that their dreams of making it to the finals next year comes to pass since MILO® is the only drink that nourishes dreams.
The winner of the competition took home an amount of GHC 400, three cases of MILO® 20g, two cases of Choco MILO® and ten MILO® branded footballs.
The first runner up also received an amount of GHC 300, two case of MILO® 20g, a case of Choco MILO® and ten branded footballs. The second and third runners up also received an amount of GHC 200 and 100, a case of MILO® 20g and Choco MILO® each and branded footballs.
All other participating schools went back to their schools with eight branded footballs each.
In the individual awards, captain of Kalpohin Anglican Primary Abdul Gafari went home with the overall best player award.
SuleymanaSualittu also of Kalpohin was adjudged the best goal keeper.
Osman Farzan of Yayumbe D/A Primary and KamilWunpiri of Sakasaka Primary won the received awards for beingthe best defender and goal king awards respectively.They all took home cases of 20g MILO® and branded footballs.
Meanwhile eight schools from different districts in the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions will take their turn in their Zonal qualifier come the Thursday the 4th and Friday the 5th of June 2015 at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
