IR Iran stay as Asia's best in FIFA Ranking, Malaysia surge

Kuala Lumpur: Islamic Republic of Iran moved up one spot to 20th while Malaysia were the Continent's biggest movers in the latest FIFA Ranking released on Thursday.

Except for Uzbekistan replacing Syria as Asia's 10th highest ranked team, Asia's other top 10 from the April rankings remained unchanged, with Japan, Korea Republic and Australia and Qatar completing the top five.


Japan, however, dropped two spots to 28th while Korea Republic were unchanged at 37th. Australia dropped two spots to 43rd while AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 winners Qatar were unchanged at 55th.

United Arab Emirates remained at 67th, Saudi Arabia improved by three to 69th, China PR by one to 73rd while Iraq dropped a spot to 77th.

Uzbekistan improved by three spots to 82 to replace Syria in Asia's top-10 list, with the West Asians dropping to 85th.

Malaysia, who advanced to the next stage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 Joint Qualification with a 12-2 aggregate win over Timor-Leste, were at 159, joining European sides Armenia and Hungary in moving up nine spots.
