Nottingham Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, ahead of his side’s showdown against Liverpool has delivered a crucial fitness update regarding Nigerian pair Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Aina, who has been absent from the Forest lineup since his return from the Africa Cup of Nations, is currently undergoing rehabilitation for an injury, leaving his participation in the Liverpool match uncertain.

He reportedly played the final of the African tournament with injury he picked up in the semis.

Speaking to reporters, Nuno Espirito Santo expressed cautious optimism about the recovery progress of several key players.

He stated, "Not sure. Let’s see tomorrow, some players are in the final part of their recovery. Ibrahim, Sangaré, is close. Chris Wood is also closer. Ola and Nuno (Tavares) [are facing] more problems. Boly is in the final days of his recovery."

Regarding Awoniyi, Nuno acknowledged the forward's importance in the previous game despite not completing a full 45 minutes. He revealed, "He was important the previous game, he didn’t play 45 minutes, today he was able to finish the game.

“I think he’s doing better in terms of fitness. He was out for a long period so let’s see for the next one how he recovers, it’s going to be important."
