The 23-year-old forward sustained the injury in March during FC Viktoria Plze?’s 2–0 victory over Bohemians Praha 1905. The setback has kept him sidelined from competitive action, including Nigeria’s recent international friendlies against Iran and Jordan.

According to Czech regional publication Plze?ský deník, Lawal has not recovered in time and is now expected to miss the remainder of the season.

The striker was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and his absence comes as a blow to the team’s preparations for the Unity Cup.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on May 26 in Charlton, with Nigeria set to face Zimbabwe national football team in the opening semi-final.
