The Ghana international was axed from the Rossoneri squad that slumped to yet another defeat in Serie-A on Wednesday.

Football-Italia is now reporting that the 32-year-old was left out due to an injury.

The report however didn’t give details of the injury sustained by the Ghana international.

Essien has increasingly been a bit-part player since arriving from Chelsea in January 2014.

The Ghanaian’s 18-month contract is up at the end of the current campaign and will not be extended.

He must therefore look for a new club with reports linking him with a move to the MLS.
