Nwaiwu received a late call-up on Thursday as a replacement for injured Calvin Bassey, the Fulham centre-back. The 22-year-old is now in contention to make his debut for Nigeria in the friendly clash against Iran.

The Turkish Super Lig side took to social media to express their support for the defender ahead of the encounter.

“We wish our player Chibuike Nwaiwu, who will be making his debut for the Nigerian National Team, all the best! ?,” the club posted on X.
