Manchester United’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the sixth round of the Premier League has left the club with only six points from six matches, their poorest start in the competition’s history.

United appeared on course for victory against Tottenham Hotspur but conceded shortly before the final whistle, allowing their opponents to claim a share of the points.

The six-point tally is the club’s worst opening to a Premier League season since the competition began in 1992. Manchester United have made a poorer start only once in the league’s history: in 1986, when they had four points after their first six matches.

That campaign was Alex Ferguson’s first season in charge of the club.

Manchester United last won the league title in 2013, in what was also Alex Ferguson’s final season as manager.
