Manchester United forward Chido Obi-Martin will spend the remainder of the season in the Netherlands after joining Willem II on loan, the club have confirmed.
The 18-year-old, who represents Denmark at youth international level, has moved to the Eredivisie side as he continues his development away from Old Trafford. The agreement runs until the end of the current campaign.
Obi-Martin’s departure was confirmed by Manchester United’s official communications channels, with Willem II securing the services of one of the English club’s promising young forwards for the rest of the season.
The striker made a significant contribution to Manchester United’s youth team during the previous campaign. He featured in 31 matches and scored 15 goals, underlining his effectiveness in front of goal at that level.
His switch to Willem II gives him the opportunity to continue his progress in the Netherlands, while the Dutch club have added an 18-year-old Denmark youth international to their attacking options for the second half of the season.
Willem II are currently 15th in the Eredivisie table. Obi-Martin will therefore join a side competing in the Netherlands’ top flight as it continues its campaign.
The move brings an official end to Obi-Martin’s involvement with Manchester United’s youth team for the current period, although the loan is limited to the remainder of this season. His 15 goals in 31 appearances last term remain the key record of his contribution to the club’s youth side before making the move to Willem II.
For Manchester United, the agreement provides the forward with a spell at a Dutch club while keeping the length of his stay clearly defined. For Willem II, it adds a young striker with a strong scoring record from his most recent campaign.
Obi-Martin will now continue his career in the Netherlands, with his loan at Willem II scheduled to conclude when the current season ends.
