Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed a deal with Millwall to sign Nigerian winger Femi Azeez, in a move that could become the Championship club’s record sale.
The transfer is worth £12.5m, according to The Athletic, with a further €2.5m potentially payable in add-ons. If completed, the deal would surpass the £14m Millwall received from Crystal Palace for Romain Esse last summer.
Azeez is expected to sign a four-year contract with Brighton, with the club holding an option to extend the agreement by a further year. The move remains subject to the 25-year-old successfully completing his medical.
The Nigeria international is set to leave Millwall after an impressive campaign in the Sky Bet Championship, where he established himself as one of the club’s most influential attacking players.
He scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in 37 league appearances last season. His performances earned him recognition from his fellow professionals, with Azeez selected in the PFA Championship Team of the Season.
Brighton’s agreement with Millwall gives the winger the opportunity to continue his development in the Premier League. The Seagulls have identified Azeez as a player capable of stepping up from the second tier after his standout displays for the London club.
For Millwall, the proposed transfer represents a significant financial return and could set a new benchmark for player sales. The club’s current record is the £14m fee paid by Crystal Palace for Romain Esse last summer.
Azeez’s move will be completed once the remaining formalities, including his medical, have been finalised. He will then begin a new chapter of his career with Brighton, having made a strong impression during his time in the Championship.
His goals and assists were central to Millwall’s attacking output last season, while his inclusion in the PFA’s end-of-season team underlined the consistency of his contribution. Brighton will now hope that form can translate to the Premier League.
The deal also marks an important step in Azeez’s career. At 25, the winger is poised to make the move from the Championship to England’s top flight and test himself at a higher level with Brighton.
Further payment of the potential €2.5m in add-ons will depend on the conditions agreed between Brighton and Millwall. The initial fee, however, is understood to be £12.5m.
Once the transfer is formally completed, Azeez will become the latest player to move from Millwall to the Premier League after earning recognition for his performances in the Championship.
