Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has offered a cautious assessment of the club’s work in the transfer market amid criticism of the team’s performances this season.

It has been widely suggested that the Red Devils failed to strengthen sufficiently during the summer, with that perceived weakness contributing to their current difficulties. The debate intensified after Lisandro Martinez made a public statement on the issue, although he later apologised for his comments.

Carrick was less definitive when giving his view on whether unsuccessful transfer business should be regarded as the main reason for Manchester United’s problems. Rather than placing the blame solely on recruitment, the manager gave a more measured response to the claims surrounding the club’s squad.
