Enugu Rangers head coach, Imama Amapakabo, has decided to extend his stay at the club by penning a new deal with the Nigeria Professional Football League champions.

His previous contract with the Coal City outfit ended at the end of last season in which he guided them to win their seventh title and he will now lead the side in their title defence next term as well as their campaign in the CAF Champions League.

The former Sharks goalkeeper’s decision to remain with the Flying Antelopes put an end to rumours linking him with other top clubs in the NPFL. “Coach Imama has agreed to continue as our head coach next season,” a delighted media officer of the club, Foster Chime on Thursday.

“We are happy he has decided to stay with us and we hope to achieve something greater next season.” Nigeriasoccernet learnt from a club source that Imama signed a two-year contract with Rangers.

Imama was first appointed interim head coach of Rangers during the 2014/ 2015 season following the dismissal of Kelechi Emeteole due to poor results. He guided the club to 12th place in the table and was handed the role on a permanent basis before the start of the of the recently concluded season. Amakapabo then led the Enugu giants to their first league title in 32 years, playing attractive football in the process.
