Heartland FC confirm death of Christian Obi

Heartland FC of Owerri has confirmed the death of their former Technical Adviser, Christian Obi following the fatal auto crash the team's bus was involved in on Friday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

In a statement by the club, Obi died at the hospital after he was taken to the hospital for treatment following the impact of the accident.

"With sadness in our heart and with total submission to the will of God, Heartland FC is announcing the death of Christian Power Obi who died on Friday 23rd August, 2024 from a road accident en route Abakaliki, Ebonyi State to participate in the TICO/SELECT Ifeanyi Ekwueme Preseason Tournament." The statement said in part.

According to the statement, "Coach Obi remains have since been deposited at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, (FUTH) morgue in Owerri while the injured have been referred to the same hospital for more proper care."

Obi as the Coach of the Naze Millionaires helped win the Nigeria National League Super Eight unbeaten in 2022/2023 season, a feat which returned the team to topflight football.
