Glasgow Rangers felt in full, the impact of the two Nigeria internationals, Leon Balogun and Cyriel Dessers in their 2-1 win over Greenock Morton in the quarter final of the Scottish Cup, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Rangers were held to a goalless first half and even Desser thought he had given Rangers the lead as he raced through on goal alongside Morton defender Darragh O’Connor, the referee disallowed the goal claiming a foul on O’Connor.
Five minutes into the second-half, Greenock Morton were awarded a penalty following a VAR check. In the follow on from a Morton corner, Cyriel Dessers clipped former Ranger Kirk Broadoot inside the box, with Grant Gillespie converting for the visitors.
10 minutes later, Leon Balogun won a penalty for Rangers after his shirt was pulled inside the box by Broadoot.
Dessers atoned for his previous mistake by slotting the ball into the net.
Dessers was involved again as Michael Beale’s men took the lead in this cup tie. The striker showed huge desire to regain possession in the middle of the pitch before picking out Danilo who had made a run into the box. The Brazilian took a touch to find space for a shot and finished low beyond the goalkeeper.
Attention will now shift to Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League play-off against PSV Eindhoven for the Scottish giants.
