Girls Play Sports Tournament: Plateau Queens edge Mighty Jets Mata to emerge champions

The usual intensity and action-packed atmosphere always experienced anytime Plateau United and Mighty Jets take to the field of play was still on display yesterday even though it had to do with the girls this time around, as Plateau United Queens and Mighty Jets Mata confronted themselves to know the winners and the representative from this center in the Girls Play Sports Football Tournament.

This Tournament, organized by the Ayomidiran Foundation, under the leadership of Honourable Ayo Omidiran, saw Plateau United Queens beating Mighty Jets Mata 2-1, Nigeriasoccernet.com gathered.

Agnes Otata and Juliet Abwo got the goals for Plateau United Queens, while Belema Christiana got the consolatory goal for Mighty Jets Mata.

 

It would be recalled that the tournament with Jos as the center from this zone, ought to have had teams from both Plateau State and Benue State; but the nonavailability of teams from Benue State gave the direct ticket to the final for both Mighty Jets Mata and Plateau United Queens.

Hence, the winner from Jos Center, which is Plateau United Queens will move to Abuja to confront other centers’ Champions.

The Plateau State Football Association Chairman, Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, who was on the ground to savor the very interesting match gave kudos to the brains behind this event, which according to him one of his administration’s agenda and mandate in keeping the girls busy as well.

According to him: “I must at this point commend Honourable Mrs Ayo Omidiran for this great initiative that has visibly brought joy and hope to these girls. Check out the atmosphere, one can smell fulfillment from these young girls. It’s a surprise that a match fixed for 4pm, had these girls already arriving at the stadium as early as 1pm".

"I’m also happy because empowering the girl child through football is also the mandate of my administration and that’s why we celebrated International Women’s Day with a tournament among the women's teams on the Plateau. We also revived the women's version of the Plateau State FA Cup; and preparations are already perfected to have the women's version of the Governor’s Cup, Chairman’s Cup, Plateau State League, among others.”

The Jos Center coordinator, Ene Rose Inalegwu, who spoke to journalists after the match, commended the PFA Chairman for giving them the enabling environment to make the event a success. “I say thank you to the organizers of this noble event, headed by our Mother, Honourable Ayo Omidiran for picking Jos as a center. Our Champions here will not disappoint in Abuja.

The Girls Play Sports Football Tournament is organized by the Ayomidiran Foundation under the leadership of Honourable Ayo Omidiran, which is in partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation, is scheduled to take place across the Nation from the 21st to the 28th of September, 2024, and focused on empowering young girls through football.
