Ghana striker Kwesi Appiah rejoined English Premier League side Crystal Palace on Monday after ending his loan deal with Cambridge United following his heroics at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The striker is a huge favourite at Cambridge United after banging in 10 goals in 19 appearances for the U's last season and eight goals in 23 outings this term during loan spells from Crystal Palace.

His second stint with United ended in December when he was called up to the Ghana squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, where he helped the Black Stars claim runners-up medals.

And now the forward (pictured below), who will always remember fondly his time spent at the Abbey, is looking to prove himself at a level higher than Sky Bet League Two in an effort to force his way into new Palace manager Alan Pardew's thoughts for next term.

"It's a new manager to impress and you never know," said Appiah, who was due back at Palace yesterday after returning to England from the tournament in Equatorial Guinea last week.

"Crystal Palace have already submitted their 25-man squad for the Premier League so I'm likely to be out on loan, but if I can impress in some training sessions before that then I might get in his plans for next season.

"I think Crystal Palace have got plans for me to prove myself at a higher level. At the end of the day, my future at Crystal Palace is the most important thing, so I've got the task of proving myself at a higher level.

Appiah will always have a place in his heart for Cambridge United as the striker begins the next stage in his mission to make his name in the Barclays Premier League.

"Cambridge has a really good place in my heart and I'll always have a lot of time and love for them," Appiah said.

"I'm thankful for everything they did for me and they'll be thankful for what I did for them."

Appiah made his international bow out in Equatorial Guinea as Ghana were beaten by Ivory Coast on penalties in the final, and he would love to sample more action for his country.

"The manager and the players have seen what I'm capable of, so I'm hopeful I can stay a part of it, but it's down to the manager," said Appiah.

"I've got to get my head down at club level and see what happens."
