Ghana defender Awal Mohammed made a winning start to his dometic league debut for Al Shabab on Saturday afternoon.

The 26-year-old who impressed in his first game for the Riyadh-based club after taming the prowess of compatriot Asamoah Gyan in the midweek’s Asian Champions League draw with Al Ain lasted the full throttle in Al Shabab’s 2-1 win at Al Shaolah.

A brace from Naif Hazazi proved too strong for the hosts who could only pull one back in the 54th minute through Youness Elewi Enezi.

Awal Mohammed had only joined Al Shabab over a fortnight ago and is already proving to be an integral part of the first team.

The former Asante Kotoko player was sold by Maritzburg United to the Riyadh club just last month while he was away on international duty with the Black Stars at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Fellow Ghanaian John Antwi was an unused substitute for Al Shabab.
