Ghana coach Avram Grant's agent has hinted that the Israeli manager will not call home-based players into the Black Stars squad because of the quality of the country's top-flight league is not great.

Saif Rubie says the former Chelsea manager the frequent exodus of top players from the local league to third-rated football leagues like Thailand and Vietnam makes it difficult for the Israeli to call them.

The agent says the league's best players' departure to unknown footballing countries does not permit the coach to monitor players from the local league for the senior national team.

Grant has come under fire from the local media for not staying in the country to monitor players for possible call-ups into the national team but the agent says the standard of the league is not impressive.

“He sleeps and drinks Ghanaian football but at the moment the quality of the league in Ghana is not up there due to a number of reasons, Saif Rubie told the BBC Sports Today program

"Any player that does well in Ghana goes to play in second or third division teams in Europe or Asia in places like Thailand and Vietnam and obviously for Avram, these are not the kind of players he will look to pick for the national team.

"So the pool of players in the Ghanaian league is not the standard that it should be.

"You look at the players that he has picked for the national team, you can’t really argue with one who has come and not performed at the highest level.”

Grant returned to Ghana on Sunday after being away since the Black Stars played Mauritius in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier which they won 7-1 in Accra.

However, pundits say he should have been staying in Ghana to monitor local players with the league getting to its climax.

Do you think the agent is right? Do you think local players don't deserve a place in the Black Stars? Do you think Grant should spend more time in Europe to monitor players? Do you think he should concentrate on the league? Make your views known in the box below:
