Ghana ace John Pantsil proud to help Maritzburg United finish historic eight in South Africa
Ghana defender John Pantsil is proud to have played an influential role for Maritzburg United as they achieved their first ever top-eight ambitions.
The Team of Choice enjoyed a decent run this term under coach Steve Komphela, achieving their long-term dream of a top-eight finish.
Pantsil, a Ghana international, was deeply involved in their surge this term with an impressive work ethics in his first season at the club.
The 33-year-old, who has been named among the best foreign players in the South African Premier Soccer League is delighted with the feat of the team.
“Things are going so good. For many years they’ve been chasing top eight and we’ve been able to finish eighth this season, so I’m proud of that,” he said.
“I’m still enjoying my football and I’ve still got more to go. The confidence and the speed is still there so I’m very happy.”
The marauding full-back now occupies a new role for Maritzburg where he has exceled as a centre-back.
“Now I’m playing at centre-back,” he revealed. “It’s been good – I’ve played 30 games there, the whole season, and kept quite a few clean sheets.”
