Galatasaray await medical results after Victor Osimhen suffers groin injury

Galatasaray will assess Victor Osimhen’s fitness after the striker was forced off with a groin problem during Friday’s 3-2 win over Istanbul Basaksehir.

The Nigeria international gave the defending champions an early lead in the 13th minute, producing a composed finish after receiving a pass from Lucas Torreira.

However, Osimhen’s influential start was brought to an end before half-time when he appeared to feel an injury. He was treated on the pitch before being replaced by Bar?s Alper Y?lmaz in the 33rd minute.

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk said the forward had experienced discomfort in his groin and would need further examinations before the severity of the issue could be established.

“Osimhen is also feeling something today. We need to see how things go,” Buruk told the club’s official website.

“The groin area is, of course, prone to injuries... It’s a relatively harmless area, healing much faster than the hamstring. That’s why it’s necessary to examine it and take MRIs.”

The Turkish champions will be hoping the problem is not serious, with Osimhen facing a short recovery window before their next major fixture.

Sporting Lisbon match in doubt

Galatasaray are due to face Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League next Tuesday, leaving Osimhen with a race against time to be available for the match.

The 27-year-old has made an impressive start to the campaign, scoring six goals and supplying two assists in four league appearances for the Yellow and Reds.

His latest goal against Istanbul Basaksehir continued that strong run, but his early withdrawal means Galatasaray must now wait for the results of the medical checks before assessing whether he can contribute in Europe.

Buruk’s comments suggest the club will monitor the injury closely rather than immediately draw conclusions about Osimhen’s availability. The groin area will be examined using MRI scans, with the results expected to provide a clearer indication of the striker’s condition.

Galatasaray secured the points despite losing Osimhen before the interval, recording a 3-2 victory in a match in which the forward had initially put them in front. The club’s immediate priority is now to determine whether his injury will keep him out of the UEFA Champions League meeting with Sporting Lisbon or prove minor enough for him to return quickly.
