Agents close to the powerful defender have confirmed that they have been approached by the MLS side Sporting KC over a test period for the experienced centre-back

The 32-year-old last played for Slovakian side FC Nitra in the 2013/2014 league season but has since not played for any club in the world.

He recently played in the Stephen Appiah testimonial game in Accra which proved that he still has some good football in him.

Mensah, 32, boasts a wealth of experience in the European game having turned out for the likes of Sunderland, Lyon and Rennes.

In recent times he has been back in his native Ghana with Asante Kotoko, but is now seeking a new challenge abroad in Major League Soccer.

Set to undergo a trial with Peter Vermes' side, the MLS club will face stiff competition from the middle east.

It is understood the Ghanian is also keen to reignite his international prospects with a move to the United States and once again become captain of the Black Stars.
