Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped in the just released FIFA ranking following an abysmal run of form where they lost their footing in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, dropping down further into 38th, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The latest FIFA rankings bring both celebration and disappointment for football fans around the globe.

Argentina (1st) continues their dominance, solidifying their hold on the top spot after successfully defending their Copa America title. France (2nd) remains their closest challenger, fueled by their UEFA EURO 2024 semi-final run.

Meanwhile, the newly crowned European champions, Spain (3rd), have reason to double their celebrations. Their impressive performance has propelled them into the coveted top three, pushing last year's finalists, England (4th), one position down. Brazil (5th) completes the top five, dropping one spot.

Several nations experienced significant movement in the rankings. Belgium (6th) finds itself outside the top five for the first time in a while, dropping three positions. The Netherlands (7th) and Portugal (8th) follow closely behind.

Colombia (9th) can take solace in their return to the top ten, despite a heartbreaking loss to Argentina in the Copa America final. Italy (10th) maintains its previous position.

The biggest climbers come from unexpected corners. Both Turkey (26th) and Venezuela (37th) witnessed meteoric rises after reaching the quarterfinals of their continental tournaments.

Impressive performances on American soil propelled Panama (35th) and Canada (40th) up the rankings by a significant eight spots each.

The Oceania region also saw positive movement. New Zealand (94th) returns to the top 100 after a seven-year absence, fueled by their victory in the OFC Men's Nations Cup. Other Pacific nations like Fiji (153rd) and Vanuatu (162nd) also enjoyed notable climbs.

However, the news isn't positive for everyone. The Super Eagles of Nigeria (38th) continue their downward spiral, dropping another spot in the rankings after a disappointing run in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
