FIFA president Sepp Blatter hails AshGold for clinching Ghana Premier League title
Sepp Blatter has congratulated AshantiGold for clinching the Ghana Premier League for this season with the FIFA president hailing the Obuasi-based club's achievement as 'exceptional'.
The Miners clinched their fourth Ghana Premier League title on Sunday in Obuasi after beating WAFA 1-0 with one match to spare.
The Miners had to wait 19 years to win the title after they last won the Ghanaian top-flight league in 1996.
Blatter, who wrote to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi, hailed the Miners for their showing throughout the season.
"A team victory is a wonderful occasion and an opportunity to draw satisfaction from a job well done," Blatter said in a letter sent to Nyantakyi on Thursday.
"Please pass on my own personal congratulations, along with those of the whole football family to Ashantigold SC on their exceptional performance."
Blatter used the opportunity to hail the efforts of coach Bashiru Hayford for leading the side to their title success.
“I know that behind this success are belief and effort of everyone involved. This is a true team victory, and all or you deserve to share in the accolades: the players and coach of course, but also the technical and medical staff and, not least, the loyal fans," the Swiss football administrator said.
“Football is proving more than ever that it can transcend traditional boundaries to become a real driver of development. It enables players at all levels to develop their individual skills, tactical understanding and personal dynamism, all the while strengthening team spirit."
Blatter urged the mining company to exert more resources into the club as they prepare to represent Ghana in continental competition next year following their success. "Football truly is a school for life and I am convinced that everyone, and in particular the young people of today, can benefit from playing football on both a social and personal level," Blatter said
"That is why I urge them all in Ashantigold SC to continue their work, leading the way on this path of success.”
"Football is helping to build a better future and I wish to thank Ashantigold SC for playing their part in this,” the FIFA boss concluded.
AshGold will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League next year.
