NNL side, Warri Wolves have reached the round of 8 of the Federation Cup after their triumph over NPFL side, Gombe United on Wednesday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Wolves of Delta edged the Savannah Scorpions by a goal to nil courtesy of a goal by Sodiq Okunlola at the Goal Project Pitch, Abuja.
The striker who came in as a substitute in the 40th minute of the first half scored a minute to the end of the game to help Wolves secure victory.
United had piled up pressure with several attempts at goal, but goalkeeper Joke Elvis stood his ground to keep his team safe.
After the match, Okunlola said he noticed a loophole in the defense of Gombe while he was on the bench which he capitalised on to score the goal.
"While I was outside I noticed the defender was very comfortable crossing the ball. He gambled a lot, so when the pass was crossed, I just had to chase him down cos I knew he was going to gamble"
"So I just used the opportunity. I also saw the keeper that he was out of his line so I calmly chipped the ball over him knowing it was the last opportunity we had"
" I am very excited, it was my first goal in Warri Wolves, am happy it happened for me and my team mates."
Warri Wolves will be in the quarter finals on Saturday as they await their opponents for the tie.
