Exclusive – Daniel Akpeyi To Start In Goal Ahead Of Ezenwa Against South Africa

Published on: 17 November 2018

Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has gotten the nod to start in Nigeria’s game against South Africa tomorrow in the absence of first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho according to reports

Akpeyi proved his sharpness in training, thanks to a string of regular games for PSL side Chippa United and he was today given the nod to be in goal ahead of Ikechukwu Ezenwa who has found games hard to come by at Enyimba.

Theophilus Afelokhai who is first choice at Enyimba ahead of Ezenwa will not make the matchday squad for the game but he will likely be in the team for the friendly game against Uganda in Asaba.

In today’s session, although Rohr rotated Akpeyi with Ezenwa in goal for the team with most of the regulars, it’s Akpeyi who is still highly favoured to start in the country were he is viewed as one of the top goalkeepers in the league.

A combination of high profile errors cost him his choice as first choice goalkeeper for the Super Eagles of Nigeria but tomorrow’s game will afford him the chance to reclaim his spot from Uzoho.
