Former Marseille star Frederic Brando has described Andre Ayew as a "diamond" after he scored in the 2-2 draw against Reims over the weekend in the French top-flight.

The midfielder has been missing for Marseille after taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations for Ghana in Equatorial Guinea.

Ayew finished as the tournament's top scorer and he continued his fine form on Saturday as he found the back of the net in the 2-2 draw.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club and Brando has shown his admiration for the winger.

"I would like to open a personal aside: we do not realise it, but we have a real diamond in our team André Ayew," he said.

"He can play multiple positions. He returned to the CAN, there are 48 hours and he is not tired. At the 89th-minute, he runs again, he comes back, tackles, defend. It's fabulous."
