Eqautorial Guinea captain rejects the 'underdog' tag

Super Eagles of Nigeria will today face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday in the opener of the 2023 African Cup of Nations campaign, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report. However, the Central African nation are unfazed by the threat posed by the Super Eagles.

During the press conference while asked by Nigeriasoccernet.com journalist Omolagba Oluwayemi who was present in the room how his underdog team will cope against the Super Eagles of Nigeria who is one of the tournament's favorite, captain of the Equatorial Guinean Emilio Nsue said:

“That we’ve been unbeaten for a year is not a coincidence,” he said.

“We have been doing our work and doing good which is why we have remained unbeaten for that long.”

Speaking on the match, he admitted Nigeria are definitely “one of the best African teams” as opined by the reporter but refused to accept the “underdog” tag placed on his country.

“On tomorrow’s match, Nigeria are one of the best teams in Africa but here at the AFCON, all the teams here are the best in the continent.

"It’s not a coincidence and we hope to do a great match tomorrow against Nigeria and go beyond the group stage,” He concluded.

Equatorial Guinea will hope to cause the tournament's first upset when they face Nigeria today in group A's second game.
