As a third of the football season has already passed, several high-profile players have had little opportunity to showcase their talents, despite their hefty price tags. Among those who have played fewer than 200 minutes in the top European leagues – without injury – Brazilian forward Endrick stands out. The 60 million euro signing has yet to impress Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, having played just 55 minutes so far.

Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, who cost 65 million euros, has seen more action with 154 minutes on the pitch, although he is still recovering from a serious injury sustained last season. The Transfermarkt list of least-used high-cost players also includes three more Chelsea players. The most surprising inclusion is Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who arrived at the club thanks to Italian manager Enzo Maresca but has only played 43 minutes. Dewsbury-Hall is valued at 30 million euros, the same as his teammate João Félix, who has played 117 minutes. The list is rounded off by goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen (20 million euros), who has yet to make his debut.

Nine of the players in this lineup play for Premier League teams. Only Endrick and Mathys Tel (who was bought by Bayern for 40 million euros but has only played 112 minutes under Vincent Kompany) are exceptions. Other players from the Premier League include Raheem Sterling (35 million euros, 123 minutes) and Jakub Kiwior (30 million euros, 96 minutes) from Arsenal, Joe Gomez (28 million euros, 55 minutes) from Liverpool, Ian Maatsen (40 million euros, 153 minutes) from Aston Villa, and Archie Gray (25 million euros, 41 minutes) from Tottenham.

Here’s the ideal starting XI of the least-used high-paid players, lined up in a very attacking 4-3-3 line-up:
